RECENTLY, A NUMBER OF CANDIDATES FROM ACROSS SCHOOLS STOOD FOR MEMBERSHIP OF THE YOUTH PARLIAMENT IN WARWICKSHIRE AND 16,397 VOTES WERE CAST. AS A % OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE THIS EQUATES TO 39.1%.

 

 

NLS is delighted that Pauli Tritter was elected as a member of the UK Youth Parliament and that Beade Paxton and George Towl were given other roles which help communicate the student voice.
 
During the voting, information was also collected on issues that are most important to young people. The top issues identified county wide were:

·       Mental Health – Services should be improved with young people’s help
·       A Curriculum to Prepare us for Life - Schools should cover topics like; finance, sex and relationships, education and politics
·       Protect LGBT people - Lesbian, Gay Bi sexual, Transgender young people deserve to be treated the same as everyone else, discrimination needs to be challenged
·       Votes at 16 - Give 16 and 17 year olds the right to vote in all elections & referendums
 
Mr Foxon - who led the hustings and voting at NLS - said how delighted he was that so many students were involved and that Bede, George and Pauli were so successful.
