Ex-NLS Student makes Aston Villa FC Debut!

On Friday 8th January ex-NLS student Edward (Ted) Rowe made his first-team debut for Aston Villa v Premier League champions Liverpool in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, at the age of 17. The game was shown live on BT Sport and gave some Aston Villa youngsters a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents in the famous cup competition, as a Coronavirus outbreak affected the first team’s availability for the fixture.

Ted left NLS at the end of Y11 in the summer (2020) and his footballing talents were evident right from the moment he arrived in Year 7. Ted was a skilful player, who could comfortably play with both feet. Ted was also a fierce competitor whose natural positional sense, teamed with an undoubted ability to read the game and influence it, made him consistently stand out. He was a role-model both on and off the pitch and Ted performed exceptionally well on the GCSE PE course he studied, along with his other GCSEs all whilst committing as part of the Aston Villa youth set-up.

Ted came off the bench on the 75th minute of the game, to make his debut against a host of established players and showcase his talents that we have all come to know at NLS. It was fantastic to see him competing at this elite level and holding his own against the likes of Roberto Firmino, Thiago Alcántara, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (pictured).

Knowing Ted, I am sure he savoured the occasion and with the huge amount of praise from pundits and other professionals about the Aston Villa youngsters’ performances that night, it will certainly have been an unforgettable debut for him! I am sure his match worn shirt will be a memento he can treasure forever and we all look forward to continuing supporting Ted’s development and journey in the professional game.

Keep up the great work Ted, we are all rooting for you!
