The IEN Faculty brings together four key areas in the school, IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance), Language Development, Learning Support, and Student Support and Engagement. A nurturing philosophy underpins all. Our work threads throughout the curriculum and exemplifies the school’s core purpose, supporting the Individual Educational Needs of every pupil.

	Nurture – All students are supported to develop their personal, emotional and social skills. Our Nurture Room enables groupwork as well as individual targeted work. IAG - Students receive Information, Advice and Guidance throughout their school life delivered appropriately for their age, e.g. in Key Stage 3 Careers’ work is part of Citizenship, in Year 9 pupils are supported to choose the best Options for their exam courses, in Years 11 and 13 students receive advice about post-16 and -18 pathways. 	Language Development Many students have varying needs relating to language development. Students with home language other than English may need intervention to refine their understanding and use of English, while those newly arrived in Britain require a high level of support in lessons from our trained TAs and specialist interventions provided by Barbara Majelli. We recognise that some students require language support because of a special educational need and/or disability. The Learning Support team have undergone specialist training to support students with this difficulty and we are working with the Literacy Across the Curriculum Coordinator to develop relevant interventions.
	Learning Support – In line with the Equality Act 2010 and the Children and Families Act 2014 we follow the SEND Code of Practice in providing the additional and different needs for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Our expert team provide support in and for lessons and targeted interventions.
	Student Support and Engagement – Pupils with emotional and social and/or mental health difficulties, occasionally leading to school refusal or exclusion, are supported 1:1 by key workers, take part in specialist interventions and /or spend time in the Nurture Room taking part in engaement projects. The Refocus on Work room is a quiet area for students who need time out of lessons to reflect.
